Changi Airport Terminal 1: You Should Visit This Secret Staff Canteen

We just can’t get tired of Changi Airport. Whether we are traveling or not, this place always gives us a refreshing atmosphere to chill out.

You might have start to guess Starbucks or some fancy cafes or restaurants. Not at all. This time we are going to explore a “secret” canteen in Terminal 1. This is a staff canteen but the good news is that it’s also open to public. When you reached Terminal 1, walk to the end and follow the signage.

It will lead you to a secluded area where you can take the lift to the basement.

We were there during lunch hours and boy, we were seemingly transported to another “world”. The canteen was huge and packed with lunch crowd!

Stalls after stalls lined up at the sides of the canteen. We had a hard time deciding what to eat!

Do you know there are up to 23 stalls in this canteen? Whatever food you can name, chances are you can find it here. Here’s a glimpse of these stalls.

Cheng Ji Cai Fan – This stall sells ever popular economic rice and plenty of dishes to choose from.

This is Orchis Food Court Beverage. A meal usually comes with your favourite beverage.

The prices are set according to staff and public rates. A look at the public rates are not exorbitant either. It’s comparable to what you are paying in shopping centre foodcourts.

Season Nasi Lemak – a popular local dish.

Feeling hungry? 🙂

This is our humble lunch. Yummy!

My favorite sunny side up.

If you have craving for Indian cuisine, there is a section right at the end of the canteen where few stalls are waiting to serve you the best of Indian culinary dishes.

Of course, not forgetting the best of Malay dishes are right here at Terminal 1 staff canteen.

For information on food selection, this is a list of these stalls:

Cheng Ji Cai Fan | Nur Family’s Ayam Penyet | Karan Yong Tau Fu | Seri Mawar Nasi Padang, Tahu Goreng, Nasi Goreng | Orchis Food Court Beverage | King of the Soup | Mini Wok | Yi Lu Fa Noodle House | Season Nasi Lemak | Fragrance Garden Chicken Rice | Lotus Thai Viet | Yong’s Cooked Food | Old Cheng Du Si Chuan Cuisine | Just Green Vegetarian | Lucky Delight (Bruised Duck rice set, Kway Chap, Bak Kut Teh, Braised Pig’s Trotter) | Taiwanese Delights | Wu Ze Tian Ban Mian & Fish Soup | Joon’s Snack | Xia Ji Curry Rice | Mas Indah Nasi Padang | Banana Leaf Curry

  1. You found out! I used to settle my meals there when I was working at the airport many many years ago. Staff gets discounts. There’s one at T2 or T3 too. If it’s still there.
