We’re sure every kid will go crazy if they are given the opportunity to fly Boeing 737. When Big and Small M heard we are going to do so, you can imagine how excited they are!
First Time Here
You would definitely have visited Singapore Flyer and probably umpteen times. Do you know apart from hopping into the observation wheel to get a panoramic view of the island, you can actually experience flying in a flight simulator. So here we are, stepping into the Flight Experience.
Flight Experience Singapore was started in Feb 2008 by Captain Michael Caston and his wife Joanna whom between them they have over 50 years of aviation experience. For the first time in Asia you can fly a real simulator.
We were warmly greeted by our flight instructor, Mr. Danny, who is our First Officer. Don’t be fooled by his humble and unassuming personality. Flight Experience‘s instructors are real pilots who have been trained in the Boeing 737 simulator and have a high-level of customer service and instructional skills. Hey, we were really honored!
Pre-Flight Briefing
First thing first, if you have been on a flight before, safety briefing always come first before the plane takes off. All the time. Our first officer led us to settle at a comfortable sofa and showed us a multi-media presentation and briefing video.
Both of them looked serious. But we wondered if they really understood what the video was presenting 🙂
Boarding Call
Now that we had finished the briefing video, it was time to board. This is the moment we had been waiting for. We only have the opportunity to be at passenger seating area and never had the chance to visit the cockpit before. We were really grateful to have the chance today. Let’s pose for a picture before we embarked into “uncharted territory”.
Ready for Take-Off
Small M volunteered to be the Captain. We were just blown away by the sight of cockpit. So many gadgets and buttons! We could fathom the tough journey every pilot had to go through before becoming a full-fledged pilot.
As the Captain, Small M will sit in the front left-hand seat while your we as the passengers would sit in the two jump-seats directly behind her. We were all ready to fly the plane to Australia. Sit tight!
During the take-off, the Captain would be given the opportunity to operate the switches under the detailed guidance of the First Officer.
At the runway, going to take off now…
Wow, we are up in the air! Hey, this is a simulated experience but it is as real as it gets.
And we landed safely 🙂
Big M also had her share of fun as well. Our First Officer briefed her on the primary controls and instruments and before taking off. With permission from Air Traffic Control, Big M advanced the thrust levers and the aircraft hurtled down the runway.
Now that we were airborne, we could relax and appreciate the stunningly realistic scenery. Big M flew us all the way to America.
The weather started to get choppy and it started to “rain”.
Phew, we touched down at John F. Kennedy International Airport safely. What an awesome experience!
Our friendly First Officer doing a debrief and explaining to us on the basics of aviation. We were just glad to learn so much from him.
Fabulous Experience
Indeed, it was a fabulous experience designed to put kids in the captain’s seat of a Boeing 737. In a fun and exciting environment, we were given this precious opportunity to learn the basics of aviation from professional pilots.
The next time you enter on an aircraft, remember to appreciate the pilots who give you a pleasant flight experience and make your flight journey ever so comfortable and awesome!
Flight Experience is open daily from 10am to 10pm.
